Ever wish you could create your own garden soil and potting mix but weren’t quite sure how to do this? If you are looking for an amazing garden soil mixture, this is a great one. This soil is perfect for raised beds, planting plants and flowers in ground and potting soil for pots. Because I have clay and rocky soil here, this DIY garden soil is what I use for almost everything.
At first it seemed so intimidating and just downright hard. Then I realized that I was doing it all wrong. I was taking a simple task and making it far harder than it needed to be. Once I figured out how to do it quickly and easily, I wanted to share. This made life so much easier and I can literally mix this in minutes.
This wonderful mix of compost, peat moss and vermiculite makes my vegetables and flowers very happy. Very nutritious for the plants, and holds just the right amount of moisture so your soil doesn’t dry out as quickly. I used to just used a premixed raised bed soil, but my vegetables never thrived in this. I would get plenty of vegetation but no vegetables. That is when I went looking for a better solution.
When making this mix, if you don’t want to use peat moss, you can substitute coconut coir. In addition, you can use perlite instead of vermiculite, if you’d like. I prefer vermiculite because it mixes and stays mixed better. But that’s just a personal preference. I think vermiculite looks a lot better.
Have you tried this garden soil mixture for raised garden beds or potted plants? What did you think? How do you like it? Let me know your thoughts and experiences.
