What’s Blooming in May | Last Week of May

I love spring! It’s amazing how much the garden can change literally overnight. I went away for the weekend and came back this morning to some amazing surprises.   Most of my blooms took a while longer than normal to get started this year.  The cold air wanted to stay a bit longer this year.

My Eden climbing rose beside my front porch opened up like crazy while I was away for two days. She had a few blooms on her when I bought her last spring, but these are the first blooms that I’ve gotten out of her since.   I haven’t seen enough growth out of her yet to start training her up the column, but I’m hoping I will be able to do that soon.

My Fairy Rose and Salvia / Woodland Sage are dancing happily together in a beautiful display of contrasting color.  I love the color combo of pink and purple, don’t you?   I didn’t really get a good taste of these together last year since it was the year that I got my Fairy in the ground and she was just acclimating.  Before that I had had her in a pot for a year just waiting for the right spot to plant her in.

Today I am also seeing my first blossoms on my barefoot Blaze climbing rose I planted last year after rescuing it from certain death on the clearance aisle way too late in the year.  This is especially sweet because I had really written this one off as a goner after she whimpered this past year away.   I planted this one near the feet of a crepe myrtle because this variety can supposedly do part sun.  I want to train this one around the trunk and up the tree if I can get her to thrive in this spot without full sun.

My Crown Princess Margareta climbing rose, planted two summers ago, is now getting long enough to be trained to climb.  She is in a part sun corner where she only gets morning sun.  She seems to be taking off suddenly and has been happily full of blooms for a couple of weeks now.
